In this café project we took the historical code of Rostov-on-Don and reinterpreted it in our summer pavilion “Zatsepi Coffee.” The city has always lived with the Don River and its embankment: markets buzzed here, warehouses and merchant quarters stretched along the shore, and leisure blended seamlessly with trade.
The color palette is built on shades of blue-green and terracotta, reflecting the river and its banks. The key accent is patinated copper — a nod to the city’s merchant past and its craft workshops. Wood recalls traditional architecture and shipbuilding, while tiled panels serve as a recognizable motif, a calling card of Rostov-on-Don.
...
The space itself is designed so that everyone can find their own rhythm. A semi-covered area with bar counters, soft chairs, and a shared bench is perfect for observing the vibrant life of the embankment. On the terrace below, loungers and viewing benches turn you toward the river. And at the rooftop, time slows down: you can relax in a deck chair under the bran
ches of a tree, work in the fresh air at a communal table, or spend the evening watching the sunset.
We brought the past and present together to create a place for rest and conversation with that very Rostov vibe — where the city feels free and easy, and the embankment once again becomes the center of urban life.
