J'PAN is the chain's fifth restaurant in Moscow, located in a pre-revolutionary building with vaulted ceilings and a complex layout. Our restaurant interior design divided the space into three halls: the main hall with a bar and diverse seating, a small cozy middle hall, and a distant hall with a high vaulted ceiling. ...
Three Halls, One Interior: Minimalist White, Wooden and Fabric Spaces
The main materials — wood, concrete, metal and glass — are found throughout all spaces and echo each other. Although all rooms are connected, they differ visually: the first room is minimalist white, the second is defined by wood, and the third is dominated by fabric. Each hall offers a distinct experience while maintaining overall coherence.
Shoji Partitions and Glass Brick as Homage to Japanese Architectural Tradition
We paid tribute to traditional Japanese shoji partitions made of washi paper: in the first halls as zone dividers adding privacy without cluttering the space; in the far hall as suspended canvases following the line of the arched ceiling. Glass brick — with changing refraction — serves as an homage to architect Hiroshi Nakamura's Optical Glass House.
